In the wake of recent hostilities between India and Pakistan, both nations had temporarily suspended operations at several airports. India closed 24 airports in its northern and western regions, including key hubs like Amritsar and Srinagar, following escalated tensions and cross-border strikes . These closures significantly disrupted air travel, leading to widespread flight cancellations and rerouting.
However, as of May 10, 2025, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) confirmed the resumption of commercial flights at all Indian airports. Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Jayant Sinha, stated that the ministry is “strictly” adhering to the Indian Air Force’s guidelines to ensure safety .
On the Pakistani side, airspace closures were initially implemented in response to Indian strikes targeting alleged terror camps. Pakistan has since reopened its airspace and resumed nationwide flight operations .
Despite the ceasefire brokered by international mediators, including the United States and China, tensions remain high. Both nations have accused each other of violating the truce, with reports of explosions in regions like Kashmir, Srinagar, Peshawar, and Karachi shortly after the ceasefire agreement .
