Computer Engineering

Course Concept:

Computer Engineering or Computer Science Engineering is the branch of engineering which studies elements both from electrical engineering and computer science and applies it to the making and development of computers and computer-based systems.

Computer engineers build computers such as PCs, workstations, and supercomputers. They also build computer-based systems such as those found in cars, planes, appliances, electronics, phones, communication networks, and many other products. Computer engineers typically design not only the hardware, but also much of the software in computer-based systems.

The main tasks of computer engineers involve developing software and firmware for embedded microcontrollers, designing VLSI chips, designing analog sensors, designing mixed signal circuit boards, and designing operating systems. Computer engineers also work to carry out research on robotics, which relies heavily on using digital systems to control and monitor electrical systems like motors, communications, and sensors.

Making a career in computer science/engineering is challenging but rewarding. It requires the basic skills of Physics and Maths. In recent times computer science and engineering has become one of the most sought after career option for engineering aspirants owing to the excellent employment opportunities in hardware and software industries.

Computer systems software engineers work as the link between the company selling the computer program and the company purchasing the computer program. They help implement the system and setup any necessary security functions. Computer engineers shouldn't necessarily be confused with computer programmers. While their responsibilities continue to evolve, computer programmers' primary responsibility is writing, testing, and debugging computer code.

Career Prospects:

Computer Engineering prepare students for a range of career opportunities in hardware and computer system design, computer networks, software engineering, data communications, multimedia processing, and internet and information technology. When most people think of computer engineering careers, they think exclusively of people who have jobs with technology companies. While technology companies are a major employer of computer engineers, companies in every sector of the economy, from business to government organisations. Graduates can expect to take up jobs in government departments, service organisations such as banks, airlines and public utilities, commercial organisations, and the manufacturing sector. More firms around the world are being computerised every year, and they require personnel to manage them.
